Overcoming Isolation Through Peer Support and Supervision Sessions

Based in Hall Green, Birmingham, Solihull Well Being Clinic has been offering psychology, counselling, holistic and alternative therapies since 2018. We pride ourselves on being a

collective hub for wellbeing services, and provide a friendly and personable atmosphere for professionals and clients alike. Private practice often leaves counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists working in individual silos. This has become all the more pronounced as more and more services have been delivered online, through the course of the coronavirus pandemic. Whilst these changes have created wider access to talking therapies for some communities and groups, it has left others struggling to find support in a face to face capacity. This is especially so for those who are technologically adrift, but also those who have particular needs that are hard to reach through virtual domains.

It is likely some talking therapies will continue to be offered online. However, it is also widely accepted there will be a mass movement to get out of our houses again so as to enjoy connections with others in person, rather than through a screen. Nobody quite knows what the ‘new normal’ will be.

Regardless of what happens, we know that Covid-19 has brought unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, uncertainty, change, illness, trauma and loss. It’s hard to find any household that has gone untouched – front line workers, carers and ordinary family members have been through some harrowing times.

The demand for psychological and emotional support has never been so high and will remain so for the foreseeable future. So as we – as therapists, counsellors, psychologists and the like – work to meet the needs of our clients, we have to be aware that the pandemic has also impacted our own lives. Where we may be busier than ever, this also means we need to pay additional attention to caring for ourselves. Isolation, excessive screen time and back-to-back client appointments are a recipe for burnout and apathy. As Therapists and Counsellors you will obviously have supervision in place, aswell as your own wellbeing activities, to manage how things feel. Why not add a peer support / peer supervision element to your practice? At Solihull Well Being Clinic, we are running monthly peer supervision sessions, for 75mins a time. They will be a chance to touch base with others in your position, reflect on practice, engage in reciprocal learning, develop skills and above all, feel connected!

Sessions are free to anyone registered with Solihull Well Being Clinic or just £7 otherwise. Get in touch, if you’d like to join us. The group will never be more than 6 therapists, in any one session. We work to retain the same membership in the group, so that it becomes a safe and supportive place to share and learn together.
