CRUSE

CRUSE bereavement support volunteers are trained in all types of bereavement and can help you make sense of how you’re feeling right now. Phone 0808 808 1677. CRUSE also offers one to one sessions with trained bereavement supporters. These usually take place over the phone or via a video call. You’ll normally see one of our volunteers between one and six times. CRUSE also has helpful information on how to support yourself, others and children/teenagers at times of bereavement, available on the website.

Telephone Bereavement Support

Our service is for adults aged 18 or above, who are grieving after someone has died from a terminal illness. Whether you’re grieving for someone who died recently or a long time ago, we can help by talking through your feelings, sharing information, or simply listening. We don’t offer counselling, but can give you emotional support. We offer up to six free sessions over the phone with the same bereavement support volunteer. It’s a safe, confidential space to discuss your feelings around bereavement. Each session can last up to 45 minutes.

Prevention of Young Suicide

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. PAPYRUS was founded in 1997 by a group of bereaved parents, who had each lost children to suicide. Papyrus’ suicide prevention helpline, HOPELINE247 (a free and confidential call, text and email service, which is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year) is staffed by trained suicide prevention advisers, who work with young people – and anybody concerned for a young person – to help keep them safe from suicide. Papyrus also offers professional advice and information to young people and those who are worried about them when suicide becomes part of their lived experience. The service intervenes to protect life where this is endangered, every day of the year.

Text Messaging Help (Youth)

Shout is the UK’s first and only free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging service for anyone who is struggling to cope. As a digital service, Shout became vital during Covid-19, as one of the few mental health services able to operate as normal at this time. It has seen the need for support remain high through the UK’s cost of living crisis. Shout is powered by the charity Mental Health Innovations, which also powers ‘The Mix’, a service providing free, anonymous online advice about the important issues in young people’s lives.
